Following our trip to the World Financial Center and World Trade Center, My sister and I took the subway to visit the Grand Central Station.
I have often heard of this New York landmark but have never visited. For this trip to New York, I was determined to make a visit to the site and be a real tourist.
After taking my first photographe of the Main Concourse and got my postcard perfect picture, I was wondering what else I could photograph. Well, there are many many interesting opportunities.
We stayed all of our time in the main concourse, not knowing that there are two levels underneath us, all underground. the Upper level has 41 tracks and the lower level has 26. It is the world largest train station in terms of the number of platforms. It covers an area of 48 acres.
The Grand Central Station were to be demolished in 1968 if not for the opposition from general public and celebrities such as Jacqueline Kennedy. The case went all the way to the supreme court. We are lucky that the Grand Central Station has been preserved and now completely restored.

I was in GCS during a visit to NYC in Dec 2001, and remember being quite agape (country mouse in the big city, lol), but your beautiful photos have it looking even grander and more elegant than I remember! These should be on a brochure or calendar or something! Really wonderful, and a great post for G.
I noticed you have a home on Cape Cod, and sure hope it came through Irene unscathed.
WE rode from Washington DC to NY, but my memories were hazy as it was more than 15 years ago.
i love gcs. it was totally empty during hurricane Irene, which was astonishing.

That's one gorgeous and grand building!
Another grand edifice saved from the wrecking ball.
I was in Chicago's Union Station this weekend and forgot to take photos.....Thank you for taking the time to share Grand Central with us!

I recall when Jackie Kennedy went to bat for the station. How gorgeous and your photos are wonderful. I can see why it would be a tourist destination on its own accord. Wonderful post and have a great week,
