Alpenglow is a special optical phenomenon that happens when the sun sets below the horizon. Since the sun is already below the horizon, there is no direct sun light. The band of Golden light, alpenglow, seen here on the mountain top was a reflection of the sun light through the particles in the atmosphere.
We saw this amazing phenomenon when we were on a photographic tour in New Mexico, USA last November.

I would love to see that in person! Really nice photos...
I have just read a novella set partly in Austria that mentioned alpenglow so thank you for showing me the real thing.

That is so cool, and your photos showcase this phenomenon very nicely.
Well done.
Bautiful pictures, really magical stuff. I've seen similar out in the archipelago of Stockholm once and it was stunning.

It makes for dramatic shots! Thanks for teaching me a new word!
This is the first time I see this! It's very interesting and beautiful! Thank for sharing. Thanks also for dropping by.
Wow ... look at that!! Isn't that something? I've never seen it, but now I wish I could. What a gift to a photographer, too!
Beautiful - I've never seen it!
Breathtaking! I've never seen an alpenglow...I imagine it's a rare event. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful photos...I like how you gave a closer view...very pretty
These are amazing photos of a seldom seen phenomenon. I have never seen this one, nor have I seen the "green flash" as the sun sets or rises on a perfectly level horizon. I was once on deck when all my fellow passengers saw it, but I must have blinked! I'm happy to be able to share in a similar experience through your photos.
